Praying Mantis I Andrew Villarreal

This is my Altar Ego project. While constructing this pray mantis out of fingernail clippers I imagined that I was a sculpter in the future. I was inspired to create a pray mantis after thinking back to my dorm days where my roommate and I caught a pray mantis. We would let it fly all over our room and basically made him our pet. I wanted to take an everyday object that people use and turn it into something bizzare. I picked fingernail clippers because they are fully functional as an arm or leg.

Here is my updated video project. The sound quality is a little distorted after uploading it to YouTube, but it’s better than having no sound. Along with it is my final spray paint stencil.

I just wanted to share this photo that my roommate took last Friday at the open house. If you look next to the pineapple there is a little brown circle. As you can see we were only a couple inches away from hitting the pineapple. Even though we were unsuccessful at hitting the pineapple we still had fun trying. We wanted to thank everyone there for their support. We are glad that we decided to proceed with the project even though our sling shot broke off the base on the way to the show.
